It all started with a TikTok video where a person on TikTok made a bunch of bets throughout the year on Tom Brady and now they are trying to recuperate some of the money they lost by selling sand from where Tom Brady announced that he was retiring from the NFL.
Looking on an eBay listing which I think several of the media outlets are using to talk about this new story the current bid as of Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 8:14 AM Eastern time is $13,100.00 and the auction still has one day and 12 hours and 15 minutes to go so the question is the more people bid or will it close at this price?
Since eBay redacts peoples identity and only shows the first letter in the very last letter of their username the Identity of the winner would not be disclosed to the public unless they choose to leave feedback however what eBay does not redact is the number of transactions a buyer has done i.e. W**U (1).
I think it would be safe to say that if a person has done several transactions they probably are not going to be a deadbeat buyer where they place a bid on something that they have no intentions of paying for if they win the auction although I see a lot of user accounts with very little history so could those people just be bidding on something that they have no intentions of paying for, but just because the person has very little transactions it does not mean they are bidding on something that they have no intentions of paying for i.e. deadbeat buyer.

NOTICE: To access this listing you do not need to be signed in to eBay, you will need to be signed into eBay if you choose to watch this item however if you place a bid you are entering into a legal binding contract that you agree to pay if you are the successful winner at the time of the auction closes, if you fail to pay you can be found guilty of breach of contract. DO NOT place a bid if you are not serious about paying. Even if you find this listing to be a joke, placing a bid on eBay it’s not a joke as you are entering into a legal binding contract that is not a joke.
not getting into an in-depth about the legal aspects I’ll just keep it very general.
Placing a bid on eBay enters you into a legal binding contract automatically, you agreed to pay for the item if you are the successful winner at the time of the auction closes.
If you fail to pay a range of actions can be taken against you such as but not limited to your account can be restricted either by eBay imposing restrictions or sellers consent by requirements that can limit your ability to make purchases from sellers.
if eBay determines it is egregious enough eBay can also terminate your account.
A seller may take legal action against you for breach of contract i.e. damages
