Have you noticed on a search engines search results when you click on a link and some of the text is highlighted?
I noticed that this has happened a few times but I hadn’t paid much attention to it, perhaps I just thought it was a special feature that that some of these website had or maybe they partnered with Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. to have this feature turn on. I also didn’t have much thought it happening on a Windows computer so I thought it was just something maybe a special feature with Apple and their OS system?
In fact, it is not a special feature that websites can turn on and off, nor have they partnered with Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc., nope this isn’t a special feature either for Apple and their iOS system.
This appears to be a special feature being made available by the web browser in order to help users find what they are looking for if there is a lot of text on a particular webpage.
So what causes this?
If you look at the URL of this article https://wqyu.com/wp/?p=1664#:~:text=This%2520text%2520is%2520highlighted%2520in%2520yellow, we want to focus on the part that has been highlighted in bold red.
At the end of the URL in our example the end of our URL is 1664, when this is added #:~:text= followed by text, numbers and if spaces between words, numbers you must add %20 as %20 is a space in a URL so it looks like this This%2520text%2520is%2520highlighted%2520in%2520yellow, at the very end of the URL as in our example, when accessing the complete URL, this added #:~:text=This%2520text%2520is%2520highlighted%2520in%2520yellow at the end will show any text that has this match to be highlighted. i.e. “This text is highlighted in yellow”
