United States and the Canadian border is well very strange, but really cool as well.

/ March 20, 2026

The United States and the Canadian border is well very strange in some ways where their looks like noting is separating the two county’s while other places their seems to be a fence if you want to call it that, separating the two.

Here is the five strange borders:

#1: Hi Neighbors

Just imagen you just moved in your new home or apartment and you want to meat your new neighbors as you seem them taking a nice walk, or taking out the trash, or playing in their backyard, can you just go over to see them? Well better just yell, as going over to each other’s house would be a no no, that’s unless you have a passport that has been stamped by costoms.

The houses are on the Canada side and the apartments is in the U.S. This photo is a screengrab from Google maps street. https://maps.app.goo.gl/uY7stGCh6Aah6ckb9

#2: Is the county better on the other side of the fence?

In the photo above if you look in the red box you will see a monument that officially marks the border for the United States and Canada, on the U.S. side you see their is a fence and on Canada’s side is a ditch that is no bigger than a ditch on some side street. #3: Witch side of the road is the United States and Canada on?

Traveling further down the road we come to a nice clearing of farm land on both side of the road, this looks like it can be anywhere in the U.S. or in Canada. From what I can see there is no monument that officially marks the border for the United States and Canada. I think left-side of this photo is the U.S. and on the right-side is Canada, the road I be leave in Canada. #4: Nope the U.S. isn’t the only ones who have part of their county cut off, Canada also.

We all know that Hawaii is an island and it is not part of the lower 48 states a.k.a. mainland U.S., the second state is Alaska, while Alaska is not an island as fair as land goes, however they are also considered to be not part of the lower 48 states a.k.a. mainland U.S so in away they are like an island, however you can drive from Washington state to Alaska but you will need a passport to drive as you will be cutting though Canada. To enter Canada you need to go though customs to then reenter the U.S. by going customs again to enter Alaska and vice versa.

Now we should be rally saying 46 1/2 of the U.S. as this has to do with two states Washington State and Minnesota. A small part of both states is cut off from the mainland U.S. where the only way to access theses two part of the U.S. by land you will need to cut though Canada and then reenter the U.S. and you could always go by water.

Small tip of Minnesota is cut off from the rest of the U.S. and the main part of the state as well, screengrab from Google Maps. https://maps.app.goo.gl/E2FdhZ55fb55fT4A9.

Small part of Washington State is cut off from the rest of the U.S. and the main part of the state as well, screengrab from Google Maps. https://maps.app.goo.gl/F6xwbkA8LaGwSgVD8

While we are in the area, here is a little fun fact: If you take the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal to either BC Ferries Long Harbour (Salt Spring Island) Terminal or to Victoria (Swartz Bay) Ferry Terminal or if you are at either BC Ferries Long Harbour (Salt Spring Island) Terminal or your at Victoria (Swartz Bay) Ferry Terminal back to Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal you have to cut though the U.S. just for a brief part of the ferry ride.

Hay Candia here, we too have part of our county cut off the just like you, the U.S.

I thought this only happened to the U.S., but taking a closer look at the U.S. and Canada border, a part of Canada is cut off from the main land Candia as well.

#5: Is this truly the International house apartment and books allow us to go international, is this library truly taking the meanly literally?

Can I go out my back door? When it comes to the United States and the Canada, the border is very odd in some ways, but this one is the strangest. If you look at this apartment building it looks like half is in the United States and the other half is in Canada. If you look at the second floor you do see an American flag so the building maybe fully in the United States but the backyard maybe fully in Canada. Still it does make you wonder where is the border. Is the road that is behind this apartment building in Canada or the U.S.?

Staying in the exact same position, but we just looked to our left side we see a historic building, which is a library and opera house. This library is like no other library as the library is in two different countries and so is the opera house, and this is like no other opera house either as it is also in two different countries.

Canadian residence is allowed to legally enter the United States without having to go through any type of customs whatsoever, if they are going to the library and opera house and upon exiting the library opera house, they must return to Canada immediately. They must use the closet door to them. On the Canadian side, there is an emergency exit.

For US & Canadian citizens, if they are inside the library and opera house patrons don’t need to go through any type of customs.
