Can Sears and Kmart be saved, if each store is a franchise, not corporately owned?

/ March 20, 2026

I don’t know if you’re like me but I personally love Sears and Kmart. Sears and Kmart it’s like a household name in fact people could actually purchase a house directly from Sears at one time.

Sears and Kmart have a deep relationship with each other. Sears once went bankrupt and Kmart came into rescue Sears so I owe Kmart a huge thank you for allowing me to shop in a Sears unfortunately it looks like fate it’s getting Sears again and unfortunately Kmart also, but could Sears and Kmart be safe if they are a franchise instead of all the stores being corporately owned?

let’s take a look at Subway sandwich shop, well all of the restaurants look pretty much identical so pretty much no matter where you go the restaurant is going to look pretty much the same however each restaurant is independently owned instead of being owned by the corporation. Each restaurant location is Louis forced to provide good customer service, keep the restaurant clean competitive pricing.

Unlike Sears and Kmart where they are not a franchise, if the corporation is doing overall poorly then they May start looking at which stores should close which doesn’t leave a location really any way to improve and turn things around.
