Often times movies trying tell a story of a historical event sometimes add things that didn’t really happen or they sensationalize or embellish the event(s) and people that if told truly how they actually happened it would otherwise just be boring.
Most people think that Netflix is just for fictional movies, but they do have nonfiction, historical miniseries that tell a story of real events that happened right in our own backyard and one of them was how Matt and David escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility which is a maximum security prison housing male inmates were some are serving a life sentence for the crime(s) they have been convicted of.
I’m not sure how I discovered this miniseries on Netflix titled “Escape from Dannemora” but this is a definitely MUST watch.
Clinton correctional facility is maximum security prison in upstate New York located in Dannemora, New York. The small town is almost like one of those small towns where pretty much everyone knows everyone and it’s not really much you can do without somebody finding out, the immediate surrounding area of the small town is mostly state park and more of the Northwestern part is pretty rural area with farming and agriculture.
if I had to guess probably one of the biggest employers would be Clinton correctional facility, much like the town I live in, although the town I live in we have two correctional centers literally next-door to each other.
First, we meet David Sweat.This is some background information that was not said during the miniseries.Based on this news, article I am pulling David’s backstory to what lead up to him being incarcerated at Clinton correctional facility.
1996: David’s first run in with the law was when he was 17 years old he was found guilty of felony burglary and served time in prison for 19 months witch is one year and seven months out of his original sentence which was two to four years.
July 6, 2002: On Saturday, July 6, 2002 David was arrested for the killing of sheriff deputy Kevin Tarsia who was on patrol.
