The answer is yes Elon Musk did in fact create a Streisand Effect, when he offered a Florida teen by the name of Jack Sweeney who is 19-years-old at the time $5,000 if he will simply delete his Twitter account and the media thought this was newsworthy it has local media center national media also started to cover which drew a tremendous amount of people to follow the Twitter account @elonjet.
So what exactly is Streisand Effect?
The Streisand Effect is when A person or a group of people want something to be removed whether it is something they find to be racist, hateful or they find it to be bad publicity in which they attempt to get the person who is posting or broadcasting to take it down by creating a petition but as a direct action the unintentionally draw people to it and instead it has the total opposite effect.
Probably one of the most easiest examples is when a housewife was flipping through TV channels and stop on a TV channel called fox and happened to be broadcasting a television show called married with children and housewife saw something that she thought was inappropriate so she created a petition to have the TV show taken off the air unfortunately it backfired as it drew more people to watch the TV show as it remained on the air for 11 seasons, then if she had not said anything maybe the TV show would have not survived to make it to 11 seasons maybe would’ve been canceled after the first season.
The Twitter account Elonjet has been tweeting the whereabouts of Elon Musk for about a year and it only had less than 5,000 followers to only probably those who are avid fans of aviation, people who like Elon Musk probably follow that Twitter account however when Elon Musk decided to ask Jack to take down the Twitter account claiming that it is a security risk for him it actually backfired because the media picked up on the new story which drew a huge surge of people to the Twitter account where it had 544.6K followers as of a Google cache.
