Do you remember the website justdelete.me well the project has abandoned, but the project has been forked and is being maintained at justdeleteme.xyz

I remember when the website JustDelete.me was in the news as a helpful tool for learning how to delete your account(s) from various websites. It categorized the difficulty of deletion, ranging from easy to nearly impossible. You could simply search for a website and it would provide step-by-step instructions on how to delete your account.

I’m not sure why the original project was abandoned, but it has since been forked and is now being maintained at justdeleteme.xyz. So, what’s different about this version compared to the original project that was active a decade ago?

The original project also had something called “Fake Identity Generator” that would give you a full name i.e. First and last name, complete address, date of birth, bio, username and a password and you could chose male or female however the forked version does not have the “Fake Identity Generator”.

In the screenshot above, this is a screenshot of the project that was originally released over a decade ago, the color scheme that they used was a white background, green = easy, simple process, yellow = still easy but some extra steps involved, red = possible but must contact customer service to have your account deleted, and black = not possible.

They did offer a chrome extension as well and they encouraged users to help them keep the project in general up-to-date and they did maintain an X account. X, formally known as Twitter.

If you clicked on any of the names of the website they would link directly to the page to begin the deletion process and if you click on “Show Info…” if available they would give you instructions on how to begin the deletion process.

If you compare the original version to the forked version which is currently being maintained there is a quite noticeable difference in the theme they chose to use, the header is black, the search box area is red, and the background of the site is more of a grayish background.

Unlike the original version they do not offer a “Fake Identity Generator“, but as far as the functionality goes, the website works exactly as the original did and they also use the same colors to indicate easy to difficult meaning that you cannot delete her account although there is something that they added, that is not available in the original project and that is using purple to indicate your account can be deleted if you live in a location with privacy.

Unlike the original project, they only had a chrome extension, the forked version has a chrome extension along with Firefox.

They do maintain a social media presence on X as well and they also encourage users to help them keep it up-to-date by opening issues, a.k.a. tickets to be addressed.

It is sad to see that the original creators decided to abandon the project, but it is good that others have decided to keep the project alive.
