I was looking up a few domain names as I wanted to know who owns them, what the name servers are and where they are registered at i.e. GoDaddy, Yahoo Domains, Name.com, etc.
Whatever someone registers a domain name, certain information about that domain name will be made public regardless of privacy settings i.e. if you choose to purchase privacy, such as Domains by Proxy, which replaces your information with theirs in the who is database, but the registrar has your PII (personal identifiable information) in the event they do need to contact you as this shows who owns the domain name, and if you are in the EU (European Union) they require people’s PII to be protected as a law was passed in 2016 called General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR for short.
So what information is made public regardless, if you purchased privacy protection that is included with the domain name that you purchased or at additional charge or if it is due to GDPR?
The following information is made public regardless of privacy protection or GDPR, name of registrar i.e. GoDaddy.com, LLC, registrar who’s database i.e. whois.godaddy.com, the status i.e. clientDeleteProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientDeleteProhibited, clientRenewProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientRenewProhibited, clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited, clientUpdateProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited, etc. and addition to important dates such as to when the domain name expires on, registered on, updated on, and the name servers.
Sometime the domain name owner has opted not to purchase privacy, and/or they are not in the EU and/or the domain name extension may not support making your name, full mailing address, email, phone number hidden from the who is database so you will see everything, and some like Godaddy to comply with the registry terms they may show a basic version unless you access the who is information on the site the domain name is registered from like what Godaddy does.
Normally, when you look up a domain name, certain information is made public, but wouldn’t looking up a domain name I have never seen this message which reads “Whois information for this domain has been blocked. For more information please contact us.” so what’s up with this?
The only thing that show is Registrar Data and under this is the message which reads “Whois information for this domain has been blocked. For more information please contact us.”
When you try to lookup who.is on who.is in the search box, you get that message which reads “Whois information… …contact us.”
What other domain names show this as well?
