How to get the Redbox Kiosk OS to work?

/ March 20, 2026

This guy is based on what I did in order to get the Redbox kiosk operating system (OS) to work on an actual hard drive not on a virtual hard drive (VHD), I would imagine installing the Redbox kiosk operating system on the VHD some of the steps would be similar or the same.

ATTENTION: You use this guy at your own risk, I take absolutely no responsibility for any data loss.

Before we begin, there are a few things that will be mandatory as there is no way around or to bypass or force it to work.

What you will need?

  • Time, you should need at least two hours as you will need to downlead a few things and this will depend on a few things your internet connection and your computer.
  • Space, one of the files is 14GBs, this is a large file and you need space to keep the file and it will make a temp file that also needs some space while it is downloading. Once it is done downloading the temp file becomes the file you will move.
    • You will also need to download another file and it is 117MBs
  • Move the two files on to a empty flash drive and remove it from your computer and set this aside for now.
  • Second hard drive as this is where we will put the Redbox Kiosk OS on it.
  • Windows 10 installion DVD.

Once you have all of this, we need to shut down the computer your on and unplug the power from the computer as we will be taking out this hard drive

Step 1: Download Windows, 10 Redbox kiosk OS from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1csHlVOeoQmbjtAPTxtySwrPPeM8NHPLr/view, and save it to your computer or external hard drive. (14GBs)

Step 2: Download this snapshot restoration tool from <Website here>, and save it to your computer or external hard drive. (118 MBs)

Step 3: You may need your computer’s drives i.e. video, audio, and internet, so download them as well and save them computer or external hard drive. (Optional)

Step 4: Save all of the files that you saved to your computer or external hard drive to your flash drive, once done remove it and set it aside for now. You should also remove any external hard drive(s) to your flash drive(s) if any are still connected.

Now we are getting into the nitty-gritty.

Step 5: Unfortunately, I only have one computer but for the computer I have, I have a spare hard drive that has no OS so this what I will use. I will take out my current hard drive and store it in a safe place and put the blank hard drive to continue with the process. It is strongly recommended that you remove any external hard drives, Flash drives and shut down the computer and disconnect the power supply. After the computer has shut down, remove this power supply and you may need a screwdriver to remove one or more screws to access where the hard drive is. Carefully disconnect the cables that are attached to the hard drive and remove the hard drive from where it is installed and set this aside in a safe place. Then carefully install the hard drive that is blank and carefully reattach the cables to the hard drive and put the cover back on and last reconnect the power supply.

Step 6: We are going to install Microsoft Windows 10, so please have your installation DVD ready. Turn on the computer and then open the CD/DVD rom drive and put the installation DVD into the CD/DVD ROM drive and you may need to press Crtl + Alt + Delete to restart and then press one of the F numbers I.e. F10, F11, etc to get the boot menu to display. Once this displays chose boot by CD/DVD and then follow the steps to install Windows.

what’s the installation has been completed you then go through the steps of setting up your computer as if you have taken it out of the box for the very first time. Microsoft will ask if you would like to use an online account instead you would want to choose an off-line account and continue to say an off-line account. It will ask you to choose a username for me I chose the username “owner” and when asked if I would would like to add a password I simply clicked on next to continue. it will then ask you about Microsoft privacy stuff. You can either leave it as the default or uncheck everything and then continue.

Step 7: once you have your computer completely set up where you see the desktop we now need to download a program called Macrium Reflect, but do not bothered looking for Macrium Reflect Free as the free version is a much older version and the archive we downloaded is saved from a newer version.

What’s the insulation has been completed it may ask if you want to do a online account say no, you want an offline account and continue without entering a password.

Now that windows 10 is installed, we need to install another piece of software and this is Macrium Reflect. (if you are looking for Macrium Reflect Free, do not bother as the hard drive clone was saved with a newer version as a newer version ends with mrimgx and the older versions do not have the x at the end.

Then This will be like we are going to install Microsoft Windows 10 to use but we will not be installing to use the computer like installing the traditional software such as printer drive(s), Microsoft office, etc instead we will only be installing one pice of software.

For me I have a spare hard drive that I will be using as if something does go wrong I can reformat the hard drive and not actually affect my hard drive that contains important files and I also do not want my external hard drive or any hard drives connected except for the thumb drive that I will be using to reload the Redbox OS. If I had another computer instead of removing one hard drive to put the hard drive that I intend to install the Redbox OS I would certainly do that, but for the time being I will just use what I have.

Step 5: If you have another hard drive and only one computer than will will need to completely shutdown this computer and disconnect the power supply and remove the hard drive and install the blank hard drive into this computer and restore power.
