Microsoft Windows XP: How the OS will won’t die anytime soon.

/ March 20, 2026

Microsoft ended support for Windows XP a longtime ago, but that does not mean you can stop using your computer. The claims that using Microsoft Windows XP connected to the internet will get you infected with spyware, virus, ect is mostly false. A computer simply connected to the internet will NOT get your computer infected with spyware, virus, ect as you must perform some action such as visiting a website that is known to contain spyware, virus, ect or downloading something from unofficial sources usually from a piracy website.

Using the default web browser Microsoft Internet Explorer will not connect to most website if you are using SSL and even using non-SSL, but you can download other web browsers that will allow you to connect to most if not all of the websites that are used today.

Mypal

The first web browser is Mypal that is based off of Firefox. The web browser does support Windows XP, but the browser seems to sometime have issues with connecting some websites as they say the browser is ether not supported or out of date.

Supermium

The second web browser is Supermium that is based off of Google Chrome. While this also supports Windows XP, the browser seems to be the best as it does not seem to have any issues connecting to any website like Mypal.

Other you may want to give a try

Other uses for your Windows XP:

  • XAMMP – This allows you to run your own web server. (The last version to support WinXP is 2014-08-21 121.6 MB (https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/1.8.2/) Look for “xampp-win32-1.8.2-6-VC9-installer.exe“)
  • Local storage – If you take a lot of videos, photos, or even have documents and you need to store them locally you can use your Win XP for a good storage device. (Note: Microsoft Office 10 all versions i.e. Pro, Home, Student) can be installed.)
  • Community Bulletin Board or Community Calendar – If you ever watch Public Educational Government Access TV (PEGTV) that is owned and operated by municipalities or by the public school chances are they may have a decated channel or between programs they may air slides to announce up coming events, news and even wanted people. Most of the time they use PowerPoint that runs on a loop you can do the same as well.
