The great firewall of China move on over. We have the great firewall of the United States.

we all know that the Chinese government tightly controls Internet access on what Chinese people are able to access and the United States heavily criticizes the Chinese government for their censorship but what is the United States doing when our government decides to say nope you can no longer access TikTok over security concerns, when a fart extends beyond government computer systems and their electronic devices, but for civilians?

public schools, K through 12, public libraries, higher education, use web filtering to filter out any content that they demon not suitable for children or education, which is totally understandable. Also protect the computer system from people accessing websites that are known to contain viruses, spyware, and other harmful things that could disrupt a computer network. Furthermore they often restrict on what you can download and install. I do not think anyone has an issue with this and in fact, they probably think that at these places there should be some type of restrictions.

the same would apply with government facilities, and institutions, such as military installations, offices, etc as you want the Internet, access to be used for official government business and not used for personal use.

so what about when it comes to civilians and their personal electronic devices, their home networks?

I believe when it comes to civilians, were there using their own electron device for personal use, on their home Wi-Fi network, or using their own data from a major carrier like Verizon, AT&T, etc nothing should be restricted as each person should choose to make a decision on whether to access, download or use any website or app.
