YouTube officially hid the number of public dislikes effective on Wednesday, November 10, 2021

/ March 20, 2026

YouTube decided to remove the public number of dislikes a video receives because YouTube claims that some YouTube creators were telling their fans followers to go to someone else’s YouTube channel and dislike a video, some or all of them and the those creators would then have a low self-esteem, they also say that when some creator who chose to disable the public number of dislikes they were being bullied.

  • YouTube creator still can see the number of likes and dislikes their video receives, so while the public can no longer see the public number is dislikes, the creator still can. This won’t stop a creator from allegedly telling your fan followers to go to someone else’s YouTube channel to dislike a video, some videos or all of them because they can still do it whether this number is public or not.

YouTube makes a claim that when some creators chose to disable the number of likes and dislikes they would be bullied.

  • While this claim may be true, I don’t think there is really a significant amount of creators that actually truly disabled the number of public likes and dislikes or where truly “bullied” as YouTube is claiming or wants you to believe. I do think some creators may have unintentionally disabled the number of public likes and dislikes without realizing it, I also think when they were disabled some people would ask, I do think that some people would say turn on the number of likes and dislikes on so we can see them which is not bullying.

YouTube claims that they have done a study by with them disabling the number of public dislikes they have seen a decrease in disliking bombing and/or bullying.  (Disliking bombing is being defined on this page as when someone is accused, found guilty, said something on another platform, supported someone, has the same name as the accused, suspect, is a relative of the accused or suspect whether they are close or not and/or another person told their follows to go to this someone (this) channel and dislike videos that they did not watch, so the dislike is not based on the video’s content it is based on other reasons.)

  • I honestly do not believe the study that they conducted because they have not released the results, they have not said how long they have conducted the study and I also think with them disabling the number of public dislikes the people are often not to even bother with clicking the dislike button.

There are tons of people that are not happy with the decision that you two chose to disable public disliked, if you go onto YouTube and you go to the video that they issued surprisingly they have not disabled comments because there is an overwhelming number of people who strongly oppose the idea of disabling the number of public dislikes a video received.
